Mother

Mother here You once lay

Hollowed by love’s departure, Your ears rang shrill with betrayal’s din

While broken promises  and agonised questions bit deep into Your skin

“Where is he that promised forever to have and to hold?”

“Where is he that once said I was his delight and gold?”

Gone he was and You were left bereft; cast into an uncertain tomorrow

While “friends””, “family” found morbid delight in Your tears, agony and sorrow

“What a failure” they remarked. “You just watch, Her utter collapse is close at hand”

But underestimated you they did for today You no longer lay

You stand
